Nicknamed the “Champs-Elysées” of Budapest, the elegant Andrássy Avenue is famous for its majestic neo renaissance embassies ending in Heroes’ Square, place of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Arts. It is in this unique location, part of UNESCO World Heritage, that the five stars Andrássy Hotel welcomes you during your stay in Budapest. Built in 1937, by the Hungarian architect Alfréd Hajós, the first national Olympic champion, in a Bauhaus architecture, the hotel became famous during the communism era, as a “Foreign Affairs Hotel”. Famous guests such as Yeltsine, Gorbatschev or even Gagarine who came straight from space!

The hotel is situated in “Bajza utca” on the first line of the metro, 5mn from the centre and 30 minutes from the airport by public transportation or about 20€ by cab.

Andrássy Hotel is a part of “Small Luxury Hotel” group, a label of that guarantees a unique charm and character thanks to a strict selection and “mystery” inspections in more than 70 countries. The large lobby contrasts with the intimate ambience of the rooms, with a modern and sober decoration.

What we appreciated the most is the feeling of being introduced to a family, thanks to a very friendly staff, and become a part of it. The cosy and warm atmosphere is also due to a reasonable art deco styled amount of rooms, 63 and 7 suites, fully furnished, with air conditioning, electronic key cards locks, safe lockers, satellite TV, desk, wi-fi connection, mini-bar and, depending on the room, a balcony with a stunning view over the embassies. To recharge your batteries, you will enjoy a large and comfortable bathroom with massage shower, bathrobes and in the suites, a Jacuzzi. Baraka, the restaurant alongside the lobby, is one of the most famous and delicious culinary experience of the city, with seafood and Hungarians creations. For 21€, you will enjoy a delectable breakfast, served from 06:30am until 10am on week days and from 7am to 10:30am during weekends.

So where do the 5 stars of the Hotel come from ? Andrassy's greatest pride is their devoted staff. More than 25 persons are at your service, and each one of them know exactly who you are, in which room you stay in, what you're doing in Budapest and what you may need for the rest of your stay.

House keeping also is insanely perfect (your room will be cleaned and tidied twice a day), but what makes Andrassy fantastic is their Special Requests Service. You want a chopper to pick you up and show you some sight around town? You can have it : everything is possible.

Thinking of guilty pleasures, the most simple ones can be equally satisfying though. We gladly chose to taste restaurant Baraka's fresh salmon, and then spent the rest of the day at the hot springs. Andrassy Boulevard also hosts many concerts : that night, Carlos Santana was lifting the same licks he did at Woodstock 40 years ago, drawing a large crowd of several ten-thousands people. I can't help thinking if I could collect one Hungarian Florint from each one of them, I could not collect enough money to afford another night at Andrassy; but one can certainly tell that is the price of excellence.
