Price range: from 355 to 725 euro, with some seasonal offers as low as 190 euro http://www.pachtuvpalace.com/ For you dear readers, I, a humble journalist for Provokator.org had the honour of escaping for one night of fantasy in the magic world of luxury, smoked salmon and silky sheets. Spending the night in this 18th century palace facing the Vltava River was anything but an ordinary experience. Moving through the beautiful baroque gardens, which used to expand up to the riverside, I found myself walking with unusual care, tip-toeing among the little Zen-like pebbled grounds, already overwhelmed by the serenity and peace that emanates from those old stones. At the front desk, the harmony persisted: I was greeted by Annah, with extreme kindness and deference, and her seven spoken languages. The adventure continued to my suite (not the bridal one, let’s not go over the top!). The corridors are not at all “hotel” like, a quite unique feat, but are rich with architectural details, improbable turns and stairways. The hotel, a combination of three smaller historical palaces, feels cosy and homely, with the charm of a preserved tiny neighbourhood. Behind the door, I was introduced to a gorgeous canopy bed and a curiously lit bathtub, along with antique furniture (with plenty of space for extensive wardrobe or in my case, well, scooter helmets…) combined seamlessly with state-of-the-art lighting and air-conditioning. The absolute quiet, the sublime king size mattress (from Czech company Davidek), as well as the amazingly silky bedding, would give even the princess and the pea a peaceful and delicious sleep. An extravagant breakfast buffet is included, where whatever you don’t see can be delivered straight to you by a lovely waitress. The service is in accord with the food: quite perfect. Going through the door of Pachtuv Palace, one leaves his worries behind, and feels home away from home, except in a prettier and historically rich place (at least moreso than my place). Indeed, amidst many political and literary anecdotes, Pachtuv palace is mostly famous for its musical tradition. Past owner Jan Josef Pachta (1756-1834) had his own orchestra. Josef Myslivecek, a great Czech composer was a frequent visitor. Mozart and Richard Wagner both were guests of the Patcha family. The hotel features occasional in-house concerts in accordance with the musical background of the building. Besides these delights, the hotel offers all the usual services, from a chauffeur to baby-sitting, as well as some more extraordinary activities like driving tanks or skydiving. The 50 rooms of the hotel offer quite a range of prices, all subject to seasonal and group rates, and many special offers are available on their website. Whether for a honeymoon or a family week-end, if one seeks peace and luxury in the city of a hundred spires, Pachtuv Palace is a dream come true, and an experience I am not ready to forget. Or be able to afford again anytime soon.
