The Greek philosopher Bion of Borysthenes described the brutally tattooed face of his father, a former slave, as “a narrative of his master’s harshness.
”There’s a story behind every tattoo, and no one knows this better than Petr Bobek, the lead tattoo artist at Tribo’s newly opened shop in Prague 5. Bobek, who has been tattooing the masses for 8 years, is Tribo ’s expert in Japanese tattoos. He prefers Japanese style tattoos over traditional styles because of their simple, pure beauty.
“Japanese style is very tranquil and classic. It is a question of tradition and uniqueness,” Bobek says.
He designed his first Japanese-style tattoo four years ago and hasn’t looked back since. He personally designs tattoos for his clientele, whom he strongly encourages to study the art of Japanese tattoos before settling on a design.
“When someone decides on this style, they need to do research on it. All the characters have their own meaning in Japanese mythology, and it is important to understand what each character means,” he says.
Bobek, who received many prestigious awards from numerous tattoo conventions around the world, will be taking part in the International Tattoo Convention, which will take place in Prague in late May. If you can’t wait till then to witness Bobek’s unique style, you can visit him at Tribo ’s impressive new location at Lidická 8.
