This was not a ordinary festival…On the 10th of December, two of Berlin’s favorite alternative bars were invaded by idealistic artists and sports enthusiasts. Spectators heading for Wild at Heart had some idea of what they would encounter, but bewilderment took over when two guys wearing boxing suits jumped on stage. Disorientation showed clearly in their faces as punk poetry echoed fighters’ strikes. All were literally knocked out.

This awe-inspiring introduction achieved its goal; sweeping away social borders between noble art and brutal street fighting. Only raw and pure emotion remained, empowering the audience to help shatter the mainstream vision of art and investigate anew.

As my old (possibly fictional) uncle used to tell me: « Once the beast is stunned son, it’s time to finish off the job ». So without conceding a moment's break, Marika, the lead singer of Super pilot, shoved the boxers' asses off-stage and launched right into the music. Needless to say, their chaotic punk rock sound had the place jumping.

At the same time, on the opposite end of the city, Ackerkeller hosted two experimental DJs and a distinctive poet, all from Czech Republic. First, Tomáš Vtípil - Computer Hardcore Acoustic - who magnetized the audience by mixing sounds coming from an unknown planet. But the real business started with the translated poetry of Mathias Traxler. It was amazing to witness the bewitching of the crowd as they stepped voluntarily into Traxler’s disturbed parallel world. Finally, the party ended with DJ Miki who kept the energy up till the rising sun.

Organizers offered an exclusive première, aimed at challenging the illusion of borders between art, language, culture and genre. All were forewarned: « We don’t have any idea how this is going to end up; Chaos, confusion or riot ».

Well, the final result is much more positive, André Breton definitely found some spiritual sons of his in our century.

Some say that punk is dead! Obviously none of them were attended either show. Fortunately, they still have a chance to experience real live punk action next February. See info below.
