Image Film-lovers and dabblers in the alternative will be delighted to hear what the Alfred ve Dvoře theatre has on offer this Autumn. Czech film-maker Adrian Kukal presents Biograph Alfred, a series of movie-screenings exploring mediums of film often neglected in mainstream distribution, including animation, alternative and experimental films. And continuing in the spirit of experimentalism, the films will be accompanied by performance art from local comics and mimes, as well costumed appearances and seminars from the filmmakers themselves.

The first screening takes place on September 15 with the focus on animation, so opening night features the murder mystery ‘Shuteye Hotel’ from the Academy-nominated American director Bill Plympton. Monday 15th's selection of 15 short films will showcase the Czech Republic’s recent festival, ANIfest ’08, whilst Tuesday 16 September will present the most advanced of digital film-making from SIGGRAPH’s annual conference held in LA, August.

In October, the emphasis shifts to student and experimental films. Of particular interest is the work of Ivo Trajkov, with his sci-fi 'Nalejme si čisté vody/ Let's Pour a Glass of Clear Water' and the experimental black-and-white 'Movie'. November will continue to look at the work of young filmmakers, whilst December promises surprise screenings, yet to be revealed.

Biograph Alfred takes the form of a club, offering not just the immersion of performance art and the screening of alternative films, but also a chance to interact with the people behind the business and a wealth of extra information on what is being seen. Full membership for the season is available at 240 CZK, or 80 CZK for one night. The opening nights in September, however, are free. In subsequent months, films will be shown on the first Monday and Tuesday of every month.
