Provokátor Magazine – the reflection of the community locally and globally
Provokátor Magazine provides a conduit for the newcomer and the experienced resident to participate in their surroundings as opposed to being a constant observer and an extended tourist.
- We do this by inviting participants regardless of nation of origin or native language to; write, photograph, design, illustrate, investigate, research articles for the print magazine and website there by allowing them to become involved with the culture they are living in or new to.
Local businesses and activities are featured along with current event listings and article around a monthly theme. The advertisements are largely our main source of revenue funding the publication. We feel that supporting local businesses as well as internationally represented businesses is a keystone in building a thriving multi-cultural community.
Provokator-myspace.com / SpinEarth.tv / Bandzone.cz
Our paradigm is designed around a transient culture that seeks to integrate with the native culture. Volunteers, students, contributors and supporters are integral to this process. We are made up almost entirely of people who participate for the sole purpose of making a culture / events / literary / resource vehicle.
Our core staff of editor, design and writers are student interns from different nations and walks of life who work with us for at least two issues from start to finish. They learn how to manipulate the different aspects of each issue and are constantly challenged with something new. They learn a great deal, especially that it is never as easy as it looks.
Requisites:
- A good sense of humour,
- short and long term goal oriented
- problem solving skills
- multitasking abilities
- ability to work within deadlines
Roles are designed to give you the best learning experience and exposure within your field, as well as giving you the opportunity to work closely with people from a variety of professional/cultural backgrounds. You will experience all aspects of running a magazine. Usually for the first month you will spend time getting to know how the magazine works; becoming familiar with our website, assisting with content and basically get into the rhythm of being part of a DIY media organization...
NO Bullsh*t: As a community production we cannot pay a stipend*, but we provide language lessons, help integrating into the locale as well as discounts or free tickets to some of the city's best entertainment venues. Regular office hours are 12:00h to 19:00h, Monday to Friday and occasional weekends.
We all participate in distribution and event production when applicable.
*Throughout the entire 6 months with IMG you have the opportunity to earn (10% - 15%) commission on sales made and any funds received that you have generated (i.e. paid design projects, writing copy for businesses etc..). However, this generally does not occur until the third month.
Process: Please send your CV and a cover letter to intern.provokator@gmail.com
>Include the dates you would like to intern with us, whether the internship is part of your study curriculum and how you would be supporting yourself in Prague. We will contact you to arrange an interview.
Editor: (For a journalism/editor internship please submit a written example of your writing skills, with a focus on a cultural, political or social subject. 300-400 wds. A journalistic internship is just that... you do journalism. We send you out to report, interview, review and preview. You learn by doing. Your articles are then edited for content, and critiqued.
