Bigger, Better, Harder Stuff That Doesn't Suck 08_07-15_07

July 9th

Start: 20:00
End: 23:59
The newly opened Pilot Bar and converted theatre hosts this trio of Czech ska/punk rock/soul bands in Prague 10 on July 9th at 8pm.
The evening consists of the musical gang bang by Super Pilot, a band whose motto says it all: “Dirty rock for your dirty soul”, keeping true to their unique mix of punk and dirty folk music.  Your eardrums won’t have a chance to recover before the Disco Balls, a local group offering up an eclectic mix of ska, soul, and surf music breakout their tunes.  And don’t forget about The Blind Daters, a band that claim the inspiration for their alt-rockin’ style comes from bands such as The Clash, The Stooges, and the Misfits.

Tracy`O

The project is based on a story which is split in different parts and music structures these pieces. This allows to play between narration and proper songs. This is a memory work and a reconstruction attempt. It is about desire, a restless wandering, an escape, an awakening and a fight. That's the story of human being, man, woman, dreams and beliefs. The quest of the Infinite takes shape through the emotional motion of Tracy'O.

"Gay Beast are from Minneapolis and claim a 'neo-wave' sound which is about a decade and a few hundred miles removed from Chicago's now wave 'explosion', and they use that time and distance to their advantage. At times I am reminded of Karate Party, Devo, Brianiac, Lovely Little Girls, and Lake of Dracula, but that recall comes in tiny pieces, small chunks in a bigger platter. And all that is good, and better that Gay Beast studiously avoids aural polish. There is a nice film of filth on this recording. If this is how they sound live: Wow!" -SS (Z-Gun http://z-gun.org)

July 13th to 19 th

World Bodypainting @ AT

The concept of a living-canvas is fully realized in this fantastical choreography of music, art and performance. This festival is a dynamic meeting place for lovers of body art, circus and painting. For a decade now, artists from up to 40 nations have made an annual pilgrimage to the small town of Seeboden in southern Austria to participate in workshop classes ranging from face painting to special effects. One of the major highlights is ‘Bodycircus’, a fantasy-themed costume ball held in a 13th century medieval castle on July 15th, featuring performers and spectators in extreme make-up and boundary-busting fashion.

With three floors of music, international DJ’s, costume prizes and ongoing entertainment, this year's Bodycircus promises to be an evening of profound magic and unprecedented activities. Photographers are invited to compete for the “World Bodypainting Photo Award”. An international jury will then select the best works, culminating in the printing of a high quality catalog to commemorate the event.

Cost: Day tickets 9€, incl. night program

Al & the Black Cats (us) w/ Rocket Dogz (cz), Reverends (cz) @ Pilot Bar, Donská 19, Praha 10 – Vršovice (20:00)

Al & the Black Cats were originally assembled to be the backing band to Al Krivoy, Al quickly realized that the 3 young men behind him where really the attraction people came to see. The 3 young delinquents who were backing this rockabilly vocalist soon went on to further the legacy with out Al at the mic. All the while keeping the original band name in tacked. Al & the Black Cats was born, playing a mix between the rockabilly they had intended to play and the Punk rock they were raised to make. They release 2 albums "The Fabulous Rockabilly Sounds of" & "Shakin' At the Knees" toured in over 15 different countries and won over thousands of fans in the beginnings. This band is quickly growing in popularity and is regarded by many to be thought of in up coming years as the new Stray Cats, but Al & the Black Cats is more then just a throw back to times gone past. This is rock and roll at its finest. and with there latest release "Givin' Um Something to Rock & Roll About" out on german based Oi! & Punk Rock label Sunny Bastards getting top reviews all over the world. Popaganda - Pop Art Meets Propaganda @ Mad Bar (19:30) until July 13th

Popaganda - Pop Art Meets Propaganda - is the theme for BRUTE! artist Aidan Hughes' first exhibition in Prague.
Renowned for his artwork for legendary industrialists KMFDM, Hughes will be showing a selection of brash and dynamic prints, canvases and skate decks and enjoying the free buffet.

Aidan Hughes is a commercial artist. He was born in 1956 in Merseyside, England, and was trained as an artist by his father, himself a landscape painter.

In the 1980s, Hughes published a pulp-style magazine called BRUTE! which earned him notoriety. "Brute" has become an occasional pseudonym for Hughes as well.
Hughes usually works in a very high contrast style, often black and white, but more often black and white accented with one other color. He claims influence from American comic book artist Jack Kirby, John Martin, and (most apparently) from Russian propaganda posters.
Aidan Hughes is best known for creating most of the album covers for the industrial band KMFDM. Two of KMFDM's music videos ("A Drug Against War," "Son of a Gun") were animated versions of Hughes's artwork. Hughes's KMFDM pieces mostly depict violent or sexual scenes, either explicit or implicit, and often has themes of domination, or repression.
His other work has included outdoor murals, including the 75 metre mural in Barga Italy during 2003[1] which has since been covered over with an earth bank; and a wide variety of advertisements, including pieces for the Bank of Scotland, and Guinness.
Hughes is credited for the art design and concept of ZPC (Zero Population Count)[2][3], a first-person shooter computer game developed in 1996 using the Marathon 2 engine.

Wednesday 27:

Dave Holland Quintet @ Lucerna

The Dave Holland Quintet was born in 1983 (the first incarnation of the band) on the album, Jumpin’ In. The original 1980s quintet (which had no chordal instruments—only bass, drums, and brass and reed instruments) went on to record two more albums after that. In 1997, Holland formed a second quintet, one which would gain more recognition and accolades over the course of its career (which still continues to this day), including multiple Grammy nominations and wins. The current quintet includes Robin Eubanks on trombone and cowbell; Steve Nelson on marimba and vibraphone; Chris Potter on saxophones; and Nate Smith on drums. Their music is a mixture of progressive-minded modern post-bop and avant-garde jazz, characteristically with asymmetrical rhythms and creative harmonies.

Criminal Damage (us), Antillectual (can), Germ Attack (hol) @ 007 (19:30)

Portland Oi in the Blitz style.
Featuring Paul Burdette, drummer of Tragedy and His Hero Is Gone, on vocals and guitars, Portland’s Criminal Damage take us to the late-’70s in England with a raucous yet melodic brand of street punk with political overtones, conjuring up memories of bands like Blitz and Sham 69
.

Inspired by the melodic punk wave of the nineties, Antillectual kicks off in September 2000.People like to call Antillectuals music fast, aggressive and melodic punk rock with strong and critical lyrics. People that are into Antillectual, happen to enjoy Propagandhi, Strike Anywhere, Rise Against and the like, for both music and content. Antillectuals lyrics discuss personal experiences in life and political opinions. Items in their songs are, among many others, universal issues as intolerance, imperialism, globalization and so on.

Thursday 28:

The Creepshow (can), Green Monster (cz), Queens Of Everything (cz) @ Futurum (20:00) promoted by Ladrogang and Sanctuary.cz

The Creepshow is a psychobilly band from Burlington, Ontario; Canada. The band formed in 2005 when the four members (Hellcat, Sickboy, McGinty, and Pomade) got together with the purpose of starting a hellbilly band. The Creepshow writes the majority of their songs about Horror Films, with the music fitting the horror punk genre. The Creepshow is known for their fast-paced songs filled with lots of backup vocals from McNab and Rowles and sing-along’s that the whole crowd can participate in. The band is also known for their exciting live shows.

The story about Green Monster starts around the turn of the century when the Cosmo’s old band formation Los Banditos broke up because things weren’t working out. But one night after couple of drinks Cosmo asked Tomas to play with him on the doublebass. The next few months was a real trial; they were without a good rockin’ drummer, without a band practice room, and everything moved along very, very slowly for the band. But now they are complete, with about 30 songs on the rack, and they are ready to raise hell in psychobilly Europe…

The Queens of Everything are a punk/rockabilly project with members of long gone bands like BadTones, Flaming Cocks, Unity and 2v1. Having a diverse musical background they incorporate various instigations into a horn section driven mix of rockabilly tradition and punkrock drive.
