After surveying the freedom of the media in 168 countries throughout the world International press freedom organisation, Reporters Without Borders ranked The Czech Republic ranked fifth -- in between the Netherlands and Estonia.

“If you want total security, go to prison. There, you’re fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking…is freedom.” – Dwight Eisenhower

In the U.S.A.,  the online infringement of copyrighted music can be punished by up to three years in prison and $250,000 in fines. Repeat offenders can be imprisoned up to six years.

Internet piracy accounted for less than 25% of the U.S. CD sales decline in 2002. Since 2001 the total European market for recorded music has lost 22% of its value but hesitated to blame piracy as the cause.

Artwork (graphics, photos, music, etc.) becomes protected by copyright when an artist takes an idea or concept and makes it into something fixed and tangible. Basic requirements to qualify for copyright protection are: it must be original, it must be creative and it must be fixed in a tangible medium. Otherwise it's up for grabs.

The old adage "possession is nine-tenths of the law" is a rule of force and not of law, since    ownership requires the right to possess as well as actual or constructive possession.

“Finders, keepers” is the concept when something is unowned or abandoned, whoever finds it can claim it. Under international maritime law, shipwrecks of a certain age can be salvaged by anyone who stakes a claim to it.

Occasionally, in the case of winning lottery tickets, someone else will claim to be the true owner. The possessor of the ticket can claim that the original owner abandoned the ticket, thus laying the groundwork for a "finders, keepers" claim.

London's longest operating squat St. Agnes Place was established in 1969. In November 2005 riot police evicted 150 people from the building to make way for public housing and a sports center.

Cybersquatting is registering, trafficking in, or using a domain name with bad-faith intent to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else. The cybersquatter then ransoms the hijacked domain at an exorbitant price to the original owner.

A free party is a party "free" from the restrictions of the legal club scene, which typically involves a sound system playing electronic dance music from late at night until the time when the organisers decide to go home, which is usually a day or two later. Or when the pixie powder wears off whichever comes first.
..squat parties usually run for 12 to 24 hours, finishing when the organisers have had enough or if they are shut down by police.”

CzechTec 2003
The first CzechTek was in 1994 at Hostomice. 40,000 people attended a secret location of the party in 2003.  In 2005 the CzechTek festival was broken up by over 1,000 riot police using tear gas and water cannons. In 2006 CzechTekk was held by agreement on military property – no violence was reported but many commented partying with permission took all the fun out of it.
