Booty calls (sex that’s a whimsical phone call away), books, affairs, vacations, movies, video games, the internet, drugs (including alcohol) and day-dreaming, or giving up on society as a whole and becoming a hobo… sound familiar?

We often participate in many of these activities in order to avoid the uncomfortable, nerve-racking, boring, threatening or mundane aspects of everyday life, yet occasionally our participation with these modes of distraction are fruitful in ways we never intended.

My mother would read to get away. Everywhere she went she’d have a book. She’d read novel after novel – mainly about murder. One day I realized that her library was filled wall to wall with books about different forms of homicide, murder mysteries, crimes of passion and all of them tales written with exquisitely descriptive detail. Suddenly I realized if I pissed her off she knew just about every way to kill me and get away with it.

Books make me nervous to this day.

Whether it’s a positive thing or not, learning how to off your enemies, friends or family is an educational benefit to reading a warehouse full of murder and mayhem books. Some prefer physical forms of escape, be they challenging, self-destructive or simply distracting . No matter what the benefit – you can take a vacation from reality and let go from the world you know - remember you can never leave the world you are physically and inescapably a part of.

Leave and come back fresh. But be present wherever you are.

The rest is silence.

- Shakespeare

And now a LOUD word on behalf of FREE RADIO:

Commercial radio sucks. Public radio tends to be un-challenging for the most part. Pirate radio is great but rare. Internet radio is becoming of the people, for the people. POD-casts (as much as we hate to side with a company that doesn't let us crack their software with ease) are annoying but useful if you got the tools. With so many alternatives out there why do we need non-commercial radio?
Non-commercial radio also means non-corporately funded radio, meaning it is not beholden to any sponsor and is therefore not required to repeatedly roll out prescribed and paid for playlists that keep the listening public pigeon holed and unenlightened - or as we say in the (non-radio) industry "stupid".
How are we supposed to keep up with the latest, newest and most cutting edge music out there if we are being force fed regurgitated, re-vamped, overplayed crap the sponsors deem bland enough for their CEOs not to be offended by? Who will stand up and say, "F*CK YOU" to commercial  notions of what we as a eclectic and eccentric society should be listening to?
What musical and informational outlets are you prepared to defend in order to not have a bunch of 'Avril-onna-old play' loving coke whores (and we mean cola too), all singing the same tone-deaf tune?

Get with it people! If you don't stand up for your right to hear and promote anything you bleedin' well want to either; listen to or have others hear - it will disappear. Just look at most Western radio...it sucks bollocks, and it's the people's fault.

We recommend the following stations and streams:
- Radiowave 100.7 FM - Prague (open format)
- artbeep.net   - Prague (Int'l and local DJ's)
- tamizdat.org (Eastern Europe, art/indie/folk)
- wfmu.org (91.1 FM - open format, New Jersey, USA)
- somafm.com (San Francisco, listener Supported internet radio)
- radioghoulschool.com (Berlin, gothic/batcave/deathrock)
- wirelessfm.net (assorted political rants/ crust / 'core and everything sick)
- sputnik.de (Berlin, open format)
- http://www.radiofrance.fr/chaines/fip/endirect/ (France, open format)

Stay tuned.

UPDATE!

A COMMERCIAL RADIO LOBBYIST (NOT EVEN THE ACTUAL CESKY ROZHLAS DIRECTOR) ANNOUNCED RECENTLY THAT RADIOWAVE IS BEING FORCED TO GO DIGITAL in the autumn - THAT MEANS NO PUBLIC ALTERNATIVE RADIO STATION. JUST TONS OF COMMERCIAL CRAP.....it begins.
We as a media and skewed information outlet encourage you to stand up for this amazing and progressive radio station that is, whether you like it our not, paid for with your tax dollars.
You think a radar base is an issue? This is just the beginning baby.
