The Prince Himself. By Swizzlestick Pierson Bonnie Prince Billie lifted Lucerna to a kind of royal transcendence last night with catchy twanging love songs, hymns to the female figure, and flamboyant gestures as well as belly-billowing vocals from the Prince himself.
What the performance lacked in pacing and dynamics was more than made up for with perfect harmonies and precise melodic structures which exhibited Billie's ability to craft a great song, as well as the chemistry of his four-piece backup band, which included upright bass, guitar, percussion and violin. The performance started slow, with both the band and the crowd settling into a cool slouch, but the room was buzzing by mid-set, with every hip doting on the downbeats. A lengthy encore crowned a royal performance that Prague will not soon forget. Local openers Atlantic Cable broke the night open early with rawkous blues beats and jangly breakdowns which had all the cool kids up front nodding their appreciative heads. |
