Colours of Ostrava, Czech Republic July 10-13 Tickets: 660-1200 CZK Main acts: Sinéad O´Connor, Happy Mondays, Gorgol Bordello, Hawkwind www.colours.cz
Who can deny themselves a visit to the town than has birthed legendary tennis star Ivan Lendl, novelist Ota Filip and, erm, pole-vaulter Kateřina Baďurová? With as diverse a range of artists as you’ll see across the Czech Republic this summer it’s well worth getting yourself down to the Silesian Castle.
Gypsy rock comes from the purple-attired Gorgol Bordello, while the legendary Hawkwind will ensure there will be air guitars held aloft with pride. Mauretania’s own Daby Touré will provide some soulful sounds with his incredible vocal range. And for the old schoolers amongst us, the Happy Mondays will be bringing a hippy vibe, the Dandy Warhols will provide the indie fix and Sinéad O´Connor provides a little glamour with her crystalline voice. Certainly a more dignified and serene affair than most on these pages, but no less exciting. And with backdrop of the renaissance style chateau originally built in the 13th century the setting could not be more ideal for this real music-addicts festival.
