Besh o'droM @ Palác Akropolis / September 9th (19:30) Besh o'droM stand out in Balkan brass landscape due to their almost punk attitude and wide range of influences, drawing from Greece, Middle East, gypsy styles and - thanks to their Hungarian-Israeli bandleader - also from Jewish music. They mix cymbalom with brass section and oriental percussion, and managed to drive crowds crazy at distinguished European festivals like Glastonbury and Rudolstadt. While touring Canada, they played for 20 thousand audiences. On current tour they perform with the striking gypsy singer Mónika Juházs "Mitsoura" (ex-Ando Drom). "A splendid flight of wildeness and joyous exuberance that rarely pauses for breath.” – fRoots magazine, UK.
Besh o'droM belong to the youngest generation of Balkan-inspired bands, their music was influenced by raw and improvised wedding music of Kočani Orkestar or Taraf de Haidouks. The band was founded in 1999 by two brothers-in-law, Gergely Barcza (sax) and Ádám Pettik (singer). The initial trio finally developed into a folk big band. Besh o'droM are the first ever group that broke the Hungarian folk purist taboo and mixed traditional instruments with funky brass section. They sing in Hungarian, Gypsy, Albanian and Greek languages. Besh o'droM combines cymbalom with saxophones, draws from thousand years long tradition of gypsy bands of Eastern Europe and mixes highest musicianship with sheer craziness on stage.
An urban wedding band, Besh o'droM's sound is ethnic tradition with the unique sound of folk instruments with jazz improvisation, a fantastic Balkan brass section with locked-down funk grooves. A 1000mph musical mayhem, a real audience pleaser with very strong musicianship. World music at its best - an absolute must. Dance shoes recommended.
