Berlin's Preslisa comes to Taky Tiki!
With Melvis to emcee your way to peanut butter and 'nanner sandwiches!
Retro will always be in style as long as there's a past there's a future for it. It's what you do with the past and the hybriding of past and present that dictates the contemporary retro of today...or yesterday for that matter (which will be totally obsolete tomorrow but only for a week). Elvis seems to come in and out of the fashionable spotlight, as does Madonna (but that's a whole other pink taco).
Berlin-based actress Preslisa covers Elvis' film-songs. But she doesn’t need sideburns, jumpsuits and a big belly to bring the spirit of the King back.
Armed with just her ukulele, her lovely voice and a good deal of humor she dives into Presley’s film career to dig out not commonly known song-pearls. Her trip through 31 E(lvis)-movies – accompanied by a slide-show of Elvis-film stills - celebrates the ridiculousness of those films as well as the beauty of the kitschy and sometimes grotesque songs she chooses to sing.
Taky Tiki Lounge in Zizkov provides the perfect setting for Preslisa, considering it's monstrously tacky decor with a funny bone with an un-indigenously tropical appeal for the freakishly fiending. Their signature drinks like Riki Tiki Tavi and Spank My Monkey will surely compliment the soothing twang of ukulele inspirations of classic songs from a stellar legend who overdosed in a Las Vegas toilet.
