The birth of The Skatelites dates back more than 40 years to May of 1964. It began when a group of musician who had already successfully defined the sounds of Jamaica through the 50s joined together to create more than a band, they created an institution. The institution that is The Skatalites gave birth to a distinct music that has spread from the shores of Jamaica like wild fire in the latter half of the twentieth century.

As can be expected, a 40 year career sees many a change of line-up. Like many of those musicians who have left their mark on music history, that original spark is still there after all this time. It is the same spark that backed Bob Marley before he became famous. It is that spark that can be found setting Žižkov ablaze this coming Thursday evening.

Now based out of the northeast corner of the United States, The Skatalites hit the shores of Europe on occasion. At Akropolis this Thursday is one of those rare opportunities to look the history of music as we know it today in the face.
