Slunovrat / Return of the Sun Festival 25 / 07 / 05 12pm

The days get longer, the days get hotter...must be summer. And what would summer be without the solstice and the annual eclectic slunovrat festival at Stromovka park? This year's sun festival features a selection of singer-songsters, ambient sound scientists, Afro-latin percussive perfections, space-rock artists, open mic, modern dance, food for both the meaties and the veggies and plenty of sun (weather permitting). Saturday, 25th June, 12.00 - 10.30 Oh yeah did we mention it's FREE?

The musical lineup: The Tits, an all women's band using acoustic guitars and mandolins to deliver soulful acoustic rock. Not exactly folk rock but rock played on acoustic instruments, dynamic and lots of fun. Fatty Lumpkin, local recording artists combining UK, CZ and Israeli talent. Fatty's quartet envelopes a hard rock vision, combining the best influences over the last 2 decades from rock, funk, jazz and northern soul. Pazvuky, delivered by ev. Feedback (of Blaq Mummy) promises a unique exploration of electronics and poetics, in a spectacle of some of the most unusual instruments you can imagine. Urban Space Epics/Pronefoal - Electronic landscapes, have been collaborating in Prague for the last 5 years on a mix of sounds found in Prague subways, analog synth, prepared guitars, and african instruments. Noel Lebon, whose former local affiliations include Colourfactory and Into the Sun returns with his melodic songcraft. His CD on the Fish Factory label 'the Sun in the Wood', draws on a select array of singer songwriters from Donovan and Fred Neil to Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley. The Sad, using a unique combination of exotic, classical and rock instruments, the Sad promise to deliver pleasant suprises. Hevel, a group known by more names than can fit here, bring their most recent project to the stage. Juan's Afro-Cuban percussion, this is the real thing, Yoruba spirit captured by the attentive friend/student of NYC's own Cuban musical inner circle. Juan has mastered every timbre, dynamic and subtlety of Afro-Cuban drumming, and sometimes he brings along his energetic crew.

As for the other stuff: Antonie Svoboda's modern dance is full of the animism one would hope for in 21st century dance performance. Svoboda brings a level of world class finesse to the art of dance. Pani Pavlova Band - a performance art project started by former members of Zuby Nehty bring their poetics and humours to this year's festival.
