At long last, The Sperm festival 2008 got of to a flying start last night at La Fabrika Theatre, with three fantastic acts from the world of computer generated music. Tropajn, Byetone and Frank Bretschneider all put in great performances that left the crowd cheering for more, with light shows that provided as much visual interest as the music, impressing even the most hardened of critics. When asked about his musical influences, Byetone advised Provokator that he grew up listening to bands such as Joy Division, Ideal and Neu, Music that was not part of the main stream pop scene of the 80's.
In relation to his own style , Byetone started focusing on computer generated sounds around 10 years ago, as he wanted and still wants his music to sound different from traditional sounds created by musical instruments. What's more, his music is always backed up by stunning visual light shows when performing live.
Byetone went on to state that his influences today come from ideas outside of music, such as architecture and what goes on around him. He likes working in abstract spaces.
