Wednesday 13 is a horror punk band, from Charlotte, North Carolina, fronted by the Murderdolls frontman of the same name. The group formed in 2004 and continue to perform together. The genre of music is a mix of glam metal and horror punk with lyrics heavily inspried by horror movies. All music and lyrics are written by the vocalist Wednesday 13. Their latest release Fuck It, We'll Do It Live is the first live album by the band. The album contains a live performance recorded at the Crocodile Rock in Allentown, Pennsylvania earlier the same year. 13 has asserted that no post-production overdubbing occured in the studio, and admits, "If we make a mistake, you will hear it. If my voice cracks, you hear it. This is as close to a live experience as we could give." The title of the album is most likely a homage to Bill O'Reilly's lost videotape from Inside Edition, where he shouts "Fuck it, we'll do it live!" after being frustrated by technical errors on the show... Sunday 9th The Casualties (usa) + Sick on the bus (uk) @ Futurum Musicbar The Casualties are a street punk/hardcore punk band from Jersey City, New Jersey formed in 1990. They aim to return to what they view as the "golden era" of punk, which they believe has disappeared by 1985. During the early years, the lineup changed a great deal. Over time shifts in the band have slowly settled, but despite these member changes, the Casualties have continued to produce high-energy recordings throughout their existence, and they have done US and international tours (e.g., Europe, Japan, and Mexico). Their latest release is Under Attack on SideOneDummy Records and they have been touring virtually non-stop since July 2006 in support of the new album. Monday 10th Empyr (fr) @ Roxy Empyr is a French rock band singing in English, made up from members of four more-or-less famous french rock bands: Kyo, Pleymo, Watcha and Vegastar. Their first album entitled The Peaceful Riot (released in May 2008) was recorded in Los Angeles under the guidance of the producer Ken Andrews. Empyr wants this first album to be “timeless”. It does indeed take some guts to make an album this oblivious to changing fashions. In a sort of successful synthesis between grunge, stoner, pop, electro and occasionally folk, Empyr brillantly reinvent the two guitars/bass/drums/vocals formula that has added spice to the greatest moments in rock. Thursday 13th Asian Dub Foundation (uk) @ Roxy Asian Dub Foundation is a British electronica band, that plays a mix of breakbeat, dub, dancehall and ragga, also using rock instruments, acknowledging a punk influence. Like other band in the same vein, Asian Dub Foundation fuse South Asian instrumentation and lyrics with the dominantly conceived black music genre of rap. Their music is able to signify a disruption in the racial/ethnic boundaries of hip hop. Their lyrics call for radical political harmony and they use their music as an organizing tool for cultural politics, endorsing righteousness, social change, and an end to what they perceive as oppression in the UK. They also pursue the issue of the politicization of the category "Asian," asserting the legitimacy and authenticity of having an Asian identity in the hip hop world. They redefine the "Asian" category by reconnecting it with an anti-colonial history, as well a current, existing anti-racist struggle. |
