Truth is stranger than fiction. The Prostitutes are Band of the Year.

If one year ago you had told us that we would be accepting an award for the best band in the Czech Republic from well informed music journalists, we would have laughed; especially as a year ago to the day we had just finished playing a gig to 8 skinheads in the town of Hradec Králové and had been rather depressed by it all as they had not been particularly well informed. Last night we played to about 400 (non-skinheads) in the same venue that the Pixies had played a couple of months back...

We were invited to play and were not expecting to win. We had been quite happy just with a nomination. After the gig we were presented with a framed poster. There it was printed in black and white. We sat with big grins on our faces for the rest of the night and our manager even bought a round of drinks.

There was a party afterwards. We all got completely wasted. I woke up in the morning with the feeling that it had been a dream, but then I opened the newspaper on the tram to work. “The Prostitutes are band of the year” screams a headline, somewhere in the music section.

We must be doing something right.
