BLATT BOOKS ANNOUNCES WINNER OF NOVEL CONTEST

BLATT BOOKS is happy to announce the winner of its 2007 Novel of
Novels contest:

This is Where My Life Went Wrong by Clarence Bard Cole.

Says BLATT BOOKS editor Travis Jeppesen, "I'm very excited that
Clarence Bard Cole's This is Where My Life Went Wrong will be the
first book-length work of fiction to be published by BLATT BOOKS. It is a totally unique, visionary work – like all great works of
literature, impossible to summarize. It reads like a cross between
Gertrude Stein's Tender Buttons, John Ashbery's The Vermont
Notebook, and Ol' Dirty Bastard's Nigga Please. As a novel, it's
completely incoherent – a real mess; as soon as I read it, I knew I
wanted to publish it. This is Where My Life Went Wrong is truly a
great novel of the 23rd century."

This is Where My Life Went Wrong will be published in June 2008 by
BLATT BOOKS.

 Finalists:

Michael Graham – Auto Immune

Jason Price Everett – UnFictions

Peter Wild – Espionage

Eugene Lim – Fog & Car

Eckhard Gerdes – White Bungalows

WE ARE GETTING CLOSER

The next publication of BLATT BOOKS , C(o)urt Interpretations by
Aleš Mustar, will be available for purchase before the holidays –
so get ready! If you can't wait, you can read one of Mustar's
poems online in the latest issue of Sawbuck:

http://sawbuckpoems.blogspot.com/2007/12/ale-mustar.html

C(o)urt Interpretations is the first full-length collection by one of
Slovenia's most provocative young poets, Aleš Mustar. In Mustar's
court, consumerism stands on trial alongside "post-post modernism" and Dostoevsky. With his witty philosophical riffing on the trappings and evasions of contemporary society, Mustar sharply demonstrates what it means to poeticize with a gavel.

Aleš Mustar was born in 1968 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. His poetry has
been published in the most important Slovenian literary magazines, and has been translated into Czech, Serbian, Polish, Macedonian, English, and Romanian. He holds degrees in English and Pedagogy from the University of Ljubljana and a Ph.D. in Romanian literature from the University of Bucharest. Mustar has also written for the theater, and is a translator of Romanian and Macedonian literature.

BLATT SAYS HO HO HO

No, not really. But BLATT editor Travis Jeppesen has been asked to
read from his first novel at the next installment of Borderline,
Berlin's hippest literary evening, on December 11th at 9pm.

In addition to reading excerpts from Victims (Akashic Books, 2003),
Jeppesen has been asked to give a rendition of the famous William S. Burroughs short story "A Junky's Christmas" for the holidaze.

So come celebrate Christmas the BLATT way – with victims and
junkies. Borderline takes place at Kinzo, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 11.

Curious about what you can expect from BLATT in the new year?

Well, in addition to Clarence Bard Cole's This is Where My Life
Went Wrong, we will also be launching a series of art books. Our first monograph in this series will be Pervateen by the legendary Prague photographer Six. You can see photos from the Pervateen series, as well as other work, on Six's web site: www.six.cz.

We will end 2008 by publishing the follow-up to Bertie Marshall's
punk memoir Berlin Bromley. The sequel, Pete's Underpants, charts
the author's escapades in New York in the late 1990s.

Indeed, 2008 is going to be a great fucking year for all of us, and
we can hardly wait to celebrate it with all of you.
