The funeral of Jan Kučera, an anti-fascist skinhead fatally wounded on January 18 during a confrontation with a neo-nazi named Jiří Fous, took place on January 25 in Příbram. The tragedy is the culmination of a prolonged conflict between neo-nazis and anti-racist youth in Příbram. The funeral was attended by Jan's family and friends as well as anti-fascists and anti-racist skinheads. Almost 400 people came to pay their last respects.
The death of Jan Kučera has led to expressions of solidarity across Europe – commemorative demonstrations have been held in several cities in Germany and Spain, in Kiev, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Jan was also remembered in Bratislava and the Moravian town of Otrokovice. About 70 neo-nazis traveled to Příbram the day after the funeral to demonstrate their supposed superiority over local alternative youth. Further neo-nazi attacks resulted.
