Cafe 203 in Lyon has reacted to the newly imposed smoking ban with a different kind of defiance.
The owner of the cafe is going to let his patrons smoke for a few hours every day despite the potential of fines for both parties which he hopes to offset in artistic fashion. He has begun creating decorative ashtrays and is selling them to his customer's to offset the fines.
The pop-art interpretations of this endangered piece of Parisian culture might well allow their use to be common place for a little bit longer. Ashtrays exist as a reaction to smoking, but now smoking in Cafe 203 may exist because of it's ashtrays. Give me smoking or give me death. Well... and death. Whatever. Full article here . |
