There will be a major demonstration on Aug. 21 to protest the planned placement of US military (anti-missile) bases in the Czech Republic. Judging by the number of people and organizations already involved the demonstration is likely to be significantly larger than the demonstrations against the war in Iraq. The demonstration will take place at 6:00 pm on Namesti Miru. Aug. 21 is the anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and it is a particularly fitting day to remember that the last foreign soldiers left the CR 15 years ago and the Czechs have no reason to want another foreign military on their soil. The demonstration will also be accompanied by a lively cultural and musical program.

Monday, Aug. 7 at 11:00 am, the Initiative will deliver model missiles to the studios of Czech Television with a plea for more balanced and objective coverage of the issue of foreign bases.

Sunday, Aug. 13 at 4:00 pm at the Humanist Center in Kolbenec, we will prepare materials and props for the next day's march (including building model missiles).

Monday, Aug. 14 at 3:00 p.m., the Initiative will meet at Mustek for a "missile" march, which will go to Karlovo Namesti and up to Namesti Miru. (Participants are strongly encouraged to bring drums and musical instruments.)

Monday, Aug. 21 at 6:00 p.m. on Namesti Miru will be the main event and demonstration of the Initiative "No to Bases". On an on-going basis, volunteers will organize petition tables at I.P. Pavlova, Narodni trida, Florenc and Wensceslas Square. Vazeni a mili, nejvetsi zprava je ze 21. srpna bude velka demostrace proti umisteni zakladni USA v CR. Podle pocet zajemcu a organizaci vypada to ze by to mohlo byt imnohem vetsi nez drivejsi demonstraci proti valce v Iraku. Akce se kona na Nam. miru od 18:00. Akce pripominaSovetska okupace Ceskoslovenska. To stacilo a nikdo nepotrebuje aby dalsi velmoc zaridil vojensky zazemi v CR. Akce odporuje petice "Ne zakladnam" kterou jsem uz poslala.. PO 21.8. v 18h., Nam.Miru - "zaverecna" akce Ne zakladnam prubezne do 21.8. budou probihat peticni stolky (I.P.Pavlova, Narodni - u Tesca, Florenc, Vaclavak) - presne terminy je treba jeste naplanovat.
