03.04.06 UPDATE: photo: www.chinadaily.com.cn Detroit Free Press- Jill Carroll, the journalist kidnapped in Iraq for 82 days, returned to America and a tearful reunion with her family, enveloping herself in long hugs with her parents and twin sister, and flashing the smile that made her a symbol of sympathy. TIMELINE OF EVENTS: From Graduation to Abduction 27.01.06
UPDATE: U.S.A. Does NOT negotiate with terrorists...the U.S. Military released five female detatinees in Iraq for no reason what-so-ever other than they felt like it. Maybe there actually is a patron saint for journalists.
BAGHDAD, IRAQ - The U.S. military freed five female detainees Thursday, a move it said was unrelated to demands made by a group that abducted the American journalist Jill Carroll this month. 21.01.06 If there is a patron saint of journalism that one could pray to or meditate with in search of advice and solace in the jobs tougher and in this case, more mortal moments, we hope he/she appears to Jill Carroll in her time of need.
Without the presence of journalists like Jill Carroll in our world the flow of information and press accountability would diminish to nil, whether or not her reportage was a point of view you agreed with.
At the moment there is a international vigil in hopes of the safe release of Jill Carroll... aLJazeera: CAIR sends delegation to secure Carroll’s release 1/21/2006 11:40:00 AM GMT A deadline set by kidnappers threatening to kill the U.S. journalist in IRAQ, Jill Carroll, passed Friday with no word on her fate. photo: www.middle-east-online.com Boston Globe : Jill Carroll's bravery January 20, 2006 TO A WORLD increasingly suffused with media, the kidnapping of Jill Carroll in Baghdad is a reminder of the dangers that journalists face in the most dangerous war zone on earth and of the importance of foreign correspondents in explaining distant places to Americans. Iraqi gangs, which seize foreigners because they are easy targets, harm their country by restricting the flow of information to the rest of the world... photo: www.chinadaily.com.cn News 24: Mother pleads for hostage 19/01/2006 16:46 Washington - The mother of a United States journalist abducted in Iraq who has been threatened with death unless the United States frees all female prisoners in Iraq, pleaded on Thursday for her daughter's release.
