ImageGetting around this beautiful city this weekend may be problematic … unless you happen to be one of the 28,000 athletes participating in what has been hailed the most international of the world’s top-10 marathons. Initiated in 1995, the Prague International Marathon now represents the biggest event in the nation’s capital—according to city sources, last year’s race drew an estimated 140,000 spectators. But running, jogging, skating, and walking aren’t the only reasons to break out the sunscreen and spandex this weekend: since 1999, the Marathon Music Festival has complemented the actual events with an array of entertainment...

This year’s festival will include more than two dozen live concerts along the course of Sunday’s marathon, as well as transform Old Town Square into “Sports Central,” where one will be provided with the opportunity to break a sweat or trade blows with professional aerobic and kickboxing trainers; a climbing wall and basketball court will also be available. And last, but perhaps most intriguing, the square will host a Carneval Procession consisting of Brazilian and Latino rhythm sections, exotic dancers, magicians, and, later, a charity concert.

As part of the city’s overall goal of winning the Summer Olympics for 2016 or 2020, Sunday’s Volkswagen Marathon is only one of several race events. Saturday’s events will include an 8km City Run or a 4km family run, as well as a 5km or 15km in-line skating race. For details on registration, routes, and times, please go to www.praguemarathon.com . So whether you choose to cheer on amateur and professional athletes from all over the world, listen to music of a similar international flavor, or participate yourself, get out and support the city for one of its finest festivities.

So what will you be runnin' in?  Adidas or Puma?
