29 August - 13 October Free www.namesfest.net International graffiti and street artists are coming to the gritty and fairly shitty streets of Prague for the first NAMES International Festival. While graffiti in Prague tends to be little more than vandalism as tags are scrawled on newly-renovated buildings, this event will encourage society to see the genre in a new, artistic light.
Over forty Czech and international graffiti writers will contribute their satirical, political subtexts to the cityscape with an accompanying program of music, discussion, films and guided city walks. Berlin’s tolerant view of graffiti led to festivals like Backjumps and Planet Prozess, and these events in turn inspired organizers, Trafačka o.s. to inaugurate NAMES FEST. The street session ends with the Best Piece Award on Sept 7, and the rest of the fest runs as a free exhibition in Trafačka Gallery. So far Ash (DA), Brad Downey (US), Rebel Ink (IT) and Zezäo (BR) are among those signed up. Check the website for further names and street locations for some seriously cool scrawl. |
