Barry Lyndon @ Meet Factory / 19:00
Coming after Kubrick's esteemed hits 2001 (1968) and A Clockwork Orange (1971), Barry Lyndon opened with high expectations and met with decidedly mixed responses to its restrained tone. Even with Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Director (and wins for Cinematography, Art Direction, Costumes, and Adapted Score), Barry Lyndon was a box office failure. Since then, Barry Lyndon has gained in stature, taking its place among the formidable artistic achievements.

 Silent Standing Demo

Provokator.org, an Instigator Media Group production, invites you to a silent demonstration to spread the word that free radio is being gagged.
On August 30, Radio Wave 100.7 FM, Prague’s only non-profit, youth-oriented radio station, is being forcibly taken off the air and made digital.
Commercial lobbyists have pitched a campaign insisting that Radio Wave be shut down, regardless of the station’s legal right to broadcast.
As a popular non-profit station, Radio Wave is the country’s only refuge from commercial mainstream radio. Removing it from the analogue airwaves is only the first step toward the commercial dictatorship of Prague radio.
Lend your support to alternative music and unrestricted cultural diversity, Thursday, August 21st, at numerous locations across Prague. Bring your radio tuned to 100.7 FM !!!

ImagePrague Spring 40th Anniversary
In Prague last Sunday, Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg compared Russia's incursion into Georgia to the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. In a statement, Schwarzenberg said the Czech Republic supports Georgia and added that "it is a sad coincidence" that the fighting in Georgia takes place at the moment when the country is marking the 40th anniversary of the invasion of Warsaw Pact troops in August 1968. The last of the troops did not leave until 1991.

The Gutter Twins @ Palac Akropolis / 20:00

Although Mark Lanegan and Greg Dulli first met at a party in 1989, the two didn't start making music together -- and become friends, for that matter -- until the following decade, after both had experienced successful careers as members of the cult grunge bands the Screaming Trees and the Afghan Whigs, respectively. Their similarly troubled pasts (and presents) forged a strong bond between them, helped only by their similar musical tastes and expressions...

Lucas Hulan @ Central Station / 20:00
Lucas Hulan has been around the Czech dance scene for a good couple of years. During that time he has made quite a significant contribution to its development. He began playing in 1996 when he used to perform with the already well known DJ Sidecar who was a house DJ at the time. They played together at XT3 and Punto Azul, and later on at Palác Akropolis, Radost FX and Roxy. The turning point in his DJ career came in 1998 when he became a member of the legendary group Roxydust managed by DJs Loutka and Petr Hosek...

Soulfly @ Roxy / 18:30
Upon his exit from Sepultura in late 1996, singer/guitarist/songwriter Max Cavalera almost automatically set out to form his next musical endeavor, the ultra-heavy Soulfly. Besides leaving one of the most popular heavy metal bands in the world, which he co-founded in the early '80s, he also had to deal with the unsolved murder of Dana Wells, his stepson and best friend. Using music as therapy to overcome his depression, Cavalera put together a band that included Roy "Rata" Mayorga on drums (ex-Thorn) and Jackson Bandeira on second guitar (ex-Chico Science), while former Sepultura roadie Marcello D. Rapp rounded out the quartet on bass...

Gone Baby Gone @ Strelak / 21:00
Ben Affleck's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel Gone, Baby, Gone stars Casey Affleck as Patrick Kenzie, a private investigator from working-class Boston who takes on a case involving a kidnapped girl. The girl's aunt begs Patrick to take the case because he has connections to criminal Boston that the police do not. He agrees and along with his partner, Angie Gennaro (Michelle Monaghan), they uncover a web of corruption that threatens the relationship between the two. Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman co-star as members of the Boston Police Department.

Shine A Light @ Strelak / 21:00
After exploring the careers of the Band and Bob Dylan in The Last Waltz and No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, respectively, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese turns his lens on rock & roll legends the Rolling Stones for this feature focusing on two concerts from the band's 2006 A Bigger Bang tour. In addition to extensive coverage of the band's two-night stand at New York's Beacon Theater (an engagement that was staged as part of President Bill Clinton's lavish birthday bash), the film also features historical footage, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage from decades past. Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson (JFK and The Aviator) supervised photography for the film, with an impressive array of A-list talents, including Andrew Lesnie, John Toll, Ellen Kuras, Anastas Michos, Stuart Dryburgh, Declan Quinn, Emmanuel Lubezki, Robert Elswit, and Albert Maysles, stepping in to insure that the Beacon performances were covered from every angle possible.

Pennywise @ Lucerna / 19:30
Through constant touring and recording, as well as appearences on surfing and snowboarding concerts and videos, Pennywise developed a dedicated following among post-hardcore punk audiences, and were positioned to follow Bad Religion, Green Day and the Offspring into the modern rock mainstream, but internal problems, culminating in the 1996 suicide of founding bassist Jason Thirsk, prevented the band from being anything larger than a popular cult band in the vein of NOFX...

Upcoming shows : The Radio$tars, Jo-An, The Stooges, Primal Scream
