During the last 20 years the name of PARNO GRASZT (meaning White Horse as symbol of purity and freedom in Romani language) became the equivalent of authentic Hungarian Gypsy music. At least that’s what the critics say. For the musicians of Parno Graszt, being authentic was nothing more than being themselves. Living in integrity, living a life and playing a music they always have had. As Simon Broughton (Songlines) said after spending a weekend with Parno Graszt in their home village Paszab: ‘They do not use sources of Gypsy music, they are the source itself.’ 24/07/08

Please The Trees @ Strelecký ostrov / 21:00
All the members of Please the Trees may have been born in the Czech Republic, but when they take the stage, some concertgoers may be surprised to find their melodic sound has little to do with Prague. It might be because the leader, songwriter and co-founder Vaclav Havelka have always taken inspiration from the outside. Although he's referring mostly to his songwriting, every aspect of Havelka's production, touring and artistic direction reflects a careful distance. Emerging on the Prague scene in 2004 as the founder of solo songwriter..s project selFbrush, he navigated an odd, compelling mix of alt-country and eclectic lo-fi that continued through the project's 2006 release

Remember House @ Radost / 22:00 Tonight, Radost is playing tribute to House music and its history. House Music was developed in the houses, garages and clubs of Chicago and Detroit, and it was produced for local club-goers in the "underground" club scenes, rather than for widespread commercial release. As a result, the recordings were much more conceptual, longer than the music usually played on commercial radio. House, techno, electro and hip-hop musicians used analog synthesizers and sequencers to create and arrange the electronic elements and samples on their tracks. House music "humanized" the new electronic instruments by combining live traditional instruments and percussion and soulful vocals with preprogrammed electronic synthesizers and "beat-boxes". Not everyone understands House music; it's a spiritual thing; a body thing; a soul thing. 26/07/08
The Mars Volta @ Roxy / 21:00 Picking up the pieces from At the Drive-In, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez formed the Mars Volta and wasted little time branching out into elements of hardcore, psychedelic rock, and free jazz that expanded on the boundaries of their previous work. Although their previous band's demise ultimately arrived before they were able to truly capitalize on their mounting commercial triumphs, the Mars Volta immediately impressed with their willingness to eschew conventional logic and push themselves into new artistic directions instead of opting for the more marketable sounds. 29/07/08 Psí Vojáci @ Vagon / 21:30 The Czech rock group Psí Vojáci is one of the major acts that started in the underground during the Communist regime and became successful after its fall in 1989. The group is dominated by songwriter, singer and pianist Filip Topol, a charismatic character who shares similarities with English singer Peter Hammill, both in his writing of literate yet powerful art songs and in his stage delivery. Drummer David Skála and bassist Jan Hazuka formed the core of the group from its beginnings up to the early ‘90s, when the latter left and was replaced by Ludek Horky. Guitarists and saxophonists came and went. 30/07/08 The Cruxshadows @ Rock Café / 19:30 One of the most popular Darkwave bands internationally, the Crüxshadows started in the early 1990's in a little town in North Florida. Over the last 15 years their success among the gothic, ebm, new wave, & dark electronic genres has earned them a near legendary underground status. The band’s dark electronic rock and introspective lyrics quickly earned them a fan base beyond the United States, particularly in Europe. With a constant and ambitious release schedule, and a dizzying live performance itinerary, they have turned conventional wisdom on it's ear & maintained their position among the scenes elite from each year to the next.
