24th Sept
Reiner Werner Fassbinder Berlin Alexanderplatz – Epilog @ MeetFactory Image

This 15-and-a-half hour movie adaptation of Alfred Doeblin's modernist novel was originally produced for German television. Set during the last years of the Weimar Republic, it follows the misfortunes of Hans Biberkopf, released from the four-year prison sentence (he earned for murdering his mistress), as he tries to re-establish himself in society but is hammered down by circumstance until he is easy prey for the rising Nazi Party.
Performed by Guenter Lamprecht as Biberkopf, Gottfried John as the treacherous Reinhold, and Hanna Schygulla and Annemarie Dueringer as the two women in Biberkopf's life beyond praise. But be prepared for the long, surrealistic epilogue, with its nuclear explosions and strange soundtrack (pop, Handel, and more) for which Doeblin cannot be held responsible.

From 25th Sept to Nov 6th, 2008
Umenimamrad Project by Artwall Gallery @ Palladium Shopping Mall Image
http://www.umenimamrad.cz

The exhibition entitled umenimamrad.cz is a presentation of a concept by Silvie Milkova and a group of students from the department of photography at the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem. The self-critical project concerns (impossible) marketing and (il)legibility of contemporary visual art. It aims to reach audiences, that in their majority consider contemporary art as something unintelligible or elitist, by the simple language typical for advertising. This goal is also supported by means of an open (pseudo)advertising promotion taking place in the Prague shopping mall Paladium on September 25 at 6 pm. During this action the authors will offer their art as a great affordable commodity. The accompanying eccentric program will provide the opening show with a “catchy” image.

In their music work they are not satisfied with a perfect copy of the old tango masters. 30th Sept
Zita Swoon @ Palac Akropolis Image

http://www.zitaswoon.com

Zita Swoon is a Belgian indie rock group, typical of the music scene in Antwerp.
Here is what The Prague Post said last year about an upcoming appearance of the band at the Akropolis:

"Zita Swoon will not be appearing onstage at Akropolis this week, but fear not: The Belgian ensemble will be on the floor instead. There will be no need for a PA system either, as the audience will be encouraged to gather around the band right in the middle of the hall.
If it all sounds a touch bizarre, that’s because it is. According to frontman Stef Kamil Carlens, who spoke to The Prague Post from the band’s office in Antwerp, it’s all about doing away with convention in order to create the most natural and intimate setting for the Zita Swoon sound."

Get ready for a very special musical night.
