Amon Tobin @ Divadlo Archa / 20:00
A native of Brazil, Tobin moved to the U.K. in the mid-'80s, when hip-hop was beginning to take hold and the rhythms of breakbeat electro-funk were replacing reggae and punk as the underground youth music of choice. He uses everything from old recordings to motorcycles (Foley Room) and even the acoustics of buildings (Out From Out Where) and stretches and skews them often beyond recognition.  Psychedelic ambiences are frequently blended with retro-jazz beats, creating a barrier of apparently incoherent sound layers. This uniqueness and complexity make the task of categorizing his music a difficult one.

A.R. Penck @ Galerie Sho Contemporary Art / 11:00
Penck's sculptures, though less familiar, evoke the same primitive themes as his paintings and drawings and use common everyday materials such as wood, bottles, cardboard boxes, tin cans, masking tape, tinfoil, wire and are crudely painted and assembled. Despite the anti-art aesthetic the rough and ready quality of their construction, they have the same symbolic, archetypal anthropomorphic forms as his flat symbolic paintings.

29/04/08
Trombenik @ Popo Cafe Petl / 20:00
Their colorful musical past therefore keeps influencing the direction that the whole band takes. Klezmer songs were played by Jewish musicians in Eastern Europe, who brought their heritage to North America as well, mostly at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries. Trombenik spices these tunes up with jazz, Balkan spirit, Gypsy effervescence, Latin American rhythm and rock drive, and arches the music over with ethnical essence.
